Portrait of the Holy Spirit in Proverbs
The breathtaking portait of the Holy Spirit in Proverbs
I’m going to share something that God showed me in His Word that I never noticed before.
It pertains to the Holy Spirit. This for all of you that LOVE discovering buried gems in God’s Word.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS DEPICTED AS HAVING SEVEN ASPECTS IN REVELATION
Revelation 1:4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.
This verse tells us the seven spirits are in reference to the Holy Spirit, because the apostle John was sending greetings from the Godhead, the Trinity: Him who is and who was and who is to come (The Father), the seven spirits before the throne (The Holy Spirit), and Jesus Christ, the faithful witness!
Then there are two other ways the Holy Spirit was depicted before God’s throne:
Revelation 4:5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God,
Revelation 5:6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
Next, Isaiah defined what the seven aspects of the Holy Spirit were in relation to the anointing of Jesus.
Isaiah 11:2 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
#1 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
#2 the Spirit of wisdom
#3 and understanding,
#4 the Spirit of counsel
#5 and might,
#6 the Spirit of knowledge
#7 and the fear of the Lord. 3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
Now, I have to thank Derek Prince, one of the most anointed teachers of God’s Word I’ve ever listened to for that little nugget!
Isn't that cool?
Now, check this out!
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WISDOM
Proverbs 2, 3, 8, 9 are all about Wisdom, who is the Holy Spirit!
And every single aspect of the seven-fold nature of the Holy Spirit listed in Isaiah 11:2 is included in Proverbs too!
Proverbs 8:1 Does not wisdom call?
Proverbs 8:14 I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength.
The word for “insight” in Proverbs is actually the exact same Hebrew word for “understanding” in Isaiah.
The word for “strength" is actually the exact same Hebrew word for “might” used in Isaiah.
Proverbs 8:12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Proverbs 2:1-3 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; 3 yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Each of the seven-fold aspects of the Holy Spirit that was described in Isaiah 11:2 is mentioned in Proverbs 2, 8, and 9!
But it gets better…
WISDOM (WHO WE NOW KNOW IS THE HOLY SPIRIT) IS THE EXECUTOR OF GOD’S WILL. WISDOM IS THE MASTER WORKMAN, THE DUNAMIS POWER OF GOD!
Proverbs 8:27-31 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.
Verse 27 reads Wisdom was there when God established the Heavens. And that squares precisely with what Genesis says!
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.)
Verses 27-29 depict God creating the heavens and earth.
Look at what else is written in Proverbs 3 and the prophet Jeremiah:
Jeremiah 10:12 It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
Jeremiah 51:15 “It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
Proverbs 3:19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens;
God created and established the Heavens and Earth by Wisdom (The Holy Spirit)!
But, wait there’s more!
WISDOM SAYS SHE HAS FRUIT
Proverbs 8:19 My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.
We learn what her fruit is in Galatians!
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
In both the Old and New Testament references, the word fruit is singular!!!!
WISDOM POINTS TO THE CROSS, REPENTANCE, SALVATION, AND ABIDING IN CHRIST!
Proverbs 9:5-6 “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed (The Cross as symbolized in the Lord’s Supper ). 6 Leave your simple ways (Repent), and live (Be Saved), and walk in the way of insight (Abide in Christ).”
WISDOM REVEALS JESUS
Proverbs 8:35-36 For whoever finds me (The Holy Spirit) finds life (Jesus) and obtains favor from the Lord, 36 but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.”
This is the explicitly stated role of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament!
Jesus IS life…
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
…and one of the Holy Spirit’s jobs is to guide people to the truth (Jesus) and bear witness about Him.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRIT OF JESUS
Jesus is the truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus.
Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Philippians 1:19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,
1 Peter 1:11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.
Acts 16:7 And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.
THE FATHER SENDS THE HOLY SPIRIT (THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON) INTO OUR HEARTS
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Galatians 4:6
for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; Proverbs 2:10
WISDOM GRANTS THE INHERITANCE OF GOD TO THOSE WHO LOVE HER
I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice, 21 granting an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries. Proverbs 8:20-21
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14
Do you see the way the Word of God perfectly ties together??!?!
Is this not ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE???
